Changes are hard
I haven’t written in a few months and the first question that comes up in my mind is why? The generic answer is that i didn’t have time. Actually, there were happening some major changes in my life, some of them which i am very proud of. I have finished my academical studies, for now. Instead of exhaustion I felt that I need to do more and within 4 months I have changed my job, moved to another city, bought a new car and switched completely to OS X. It’s like a snowball effect, once you get into the game you feel that you need to do more and more.
Ok, then what is the catch for the title of this post? Changes are really hard, they are, they throw you out of your comfort zone and force you to take new decisions that you have never taught you would need to take in the near future, they force you to see something else, or at least to see things from another angle. But this process is hard and painful. At some point you may seem very confused and think that things may not come out good in the end, but then something strange happens, you start to see another path, things that you took as undoubtable facts are questioned, rethought and rewritten.
Being again in the posture of a newcomer is great, having to choose a new place to live, a new lifestyle, a new daily routine force you to think about even the simplest decisions like: where would I shop for groceries today? I don’t know about you, but when I hear this, numbers start to flow through my head, simple calculations and analysis are going on.
Changes attract a lot of unknowns in your life, a lot of things that you are uncertain of, a lot of things that need to be adapted to fit your needs and expectations.

Beautiful art made of junk
In the spirit of the aesthetics of ugliness the washed up photo series is a great example of beautiful art made out of junk. I can only send my congratulations for this great idea to Alejandro Durán.

Some of us had it, and some of us didn’t, but living a story like this is amazing. Excellent storytelling and realization.

Important Players in Romanian Webdesign
For my final post this year I will list the most important webdesign players in Romania according to me.
Romania is an emerging power in the webdesign world. Lately more and more Romanian people got known in the webdesign industry through various international websites and social media.
Alexbuga.com
He is one of the first active webdesigners in Romania that I have heard of and surely he is also one of the best. Currently he is in charge of the creative stuff over at MB Dragan Agency from Bucharest. In his free time he takes beautiful photos and flirts with his Maschine.

Braintuitive.com
Braintutitive is a web agency base in Cluj Napoca, and I am very proud to say this. They have gathered, staring with 2007, the most creative people around and build what is now a successful agency that does webdevelopment, advertising and online marketing. What I like the most about them is that they pay attention to every pixel.

Baritchi.ro
Baritchi is a very well known interactive agency based in Bucharest. What I appreciate the most about their design is that they keep things simple and use whitespace very well. Most of the websites designed by them are clean, simple and center based.

I’m sure that there are other strong people / agencys in the Romanian webdesign industry that I have not heard of. If you read this and would like to get known through this website, just say hello to: ![]()

Modular Design and Sustainability
Lately I’ve been doing some research on modular design and sustainability. There are various approaches and various interpretations of this topic. I’m not an expert in this domain, I’m only exploring this fascinating world like a newborn, learning and creating my own perception that I want to share with you. In a world of limited ressources sustainability will have to be implemented on large scale so that the human species can survive.
Sustainability is achieved through long-lasting and environmental friendly products, as Dieter Rams suggested in his famous “ten principles of good design”. In order to get to this level you have to design products that can be easily change in time, that can be adapted to new needs, that use as much as possible durable and environmental friendly materials. Products that can be adapted easily to new needs without much expenses and resources are, of course, not very friendly with our consumer market. Although some companies do take this concept into practice. The majority of them come from the IT area, where software / firmware updates are a usual thing. But what about other products, larger products, like for example an apartment or a home.
Modular Apartment
Here comes modularity into play. To be modular means to be independent from other parts. The elements of design are split up and assigned to modules according to an architecture or plan. Using this kind of thinking can be very useful for the constant evolution. Of course, the theory of modularity is more complex. To understand this concept better I will present you Mr. Gary Chang.
Lumenhouse
On a larger scale, this concept was used by Lumenhaus in the design of their concept house that emphasizes integrity and endurance through the choice of materials and components that are based on the essential requirements of environmental conservation and energy use and as well as the longevity of each product.
The house is entirely modular, so the user has the option to add or remove rooms and entire floors. The absolute fascinating thing about this house is that it produces more energy that it uses. More about the Lumenhouse here. (flash required)
